Universitatea Babeș-Bolyai din Cluj-Napoca (UBB) va avea o bază științifică / academică la malul Mării Negre, în urma adjudecării unei clădiri situate în localitatea Neptun, județul Constanța.

Adjudecarea a fost realizată în urma licitației organizate de către statul român (RA-APPS), fiind validată de  forurile UBB, iar în data de 14 iulie 2021 au fost semnate actele cu RA-APPS.

„Prin angajamentul forurilor de decizie din UBB (Rector/Consiliu de Administrație/Senat) vom dezvolta acolo o stațiune științifică și academică a UBB, care să aibă funcții (1) educaționale, (2) de cercetare-dezvoltare-inovare și (3) de relație cu societatea. Demersul a fost motivat (1) de jos în sus – solicitările de practică și/sau de cercetare în zona Dobrogei/Mării Negre din partea cadrelor didactice, a cercetătorilor și studenților UBB (iar închirierea unor spații pe măsura nevoilor nu este fezabilă) și (2) de sus în jos, în condițiile în care UBB, ca o universitate globală world-class de 5 stele (QS*****), nu poate să nu fie ancorată în proiectul european al „Inițiativei celor Trei Mari (I3M)” (ex. în digitalizare, energie etc.), aceasta și în coordonare cu proiectul Danubius în care dorim să fim parte activă prin stațiunea științifică/academică de la Coronini. De asemenea, noi țintim proiecte comune cu autoritățile locale, deoarece experiența a arătat că prezența academică a UBB în diverse localități ale țării le dinamizează socio-economic și spre avantaje competitive, cu impact pozitiv apoi asupra bunăstării populației”, afirmă rectorul UBB, prof. univ. dr. Daniel David. 

Cu o tradiție academică de 440 de ani, UBB face parte din galeria universităților de prestigiu și de referință din România, fiind astăzi adesea cea mai bine poziționată în România în rankingurile universitare globale și pe domenii, de cinci ani aflându-se pe prima poziție în țară în Metarankingul Universitar care sumarizează rankingurile internaționale majore ale universităților. Recent, în urma auditului internațional QS STAR, UBB a fost confirmată ca o universitate ”world-class” (QS*****), iar din 2020 UBB a fost acceptată în GUILD, organizația unora din cele mai prestigioase universități europene “world-class/research-intensive”.

UBB – cea mai mare comunitate academică din țară – are în prezent alte șase stațiuni de cercetare științifică/academice: Stațiunea științifică Arcalia (jud. Bistrița-Năsăud), Stațiunea Științifică Danubius (jud. Caraș-Severin), Centrul de Cercetări Biologice din Jibou (jud. Sălaj), Complexul Beliș (jud. Cluj), Complexul Baru (jud. Hunedoara), respectiv Baza Didactică, Arheologică și de Cercetări Interdisciplinare „Hadrian Daicoviciu” (jud. Hunedoara).
